The New Museum, in conjunction with London’s Hayward Gallery, present a retrospective of the work of American artist George Condo. Set to open January 2011, the exhibit will display Condo’s figurative paintings, as well as a series of sculptures. The show will look at twenty five years of works by the artist, who is known as a portraitist with abstract and often humorous figures displayed in his work. Set in an installation of fifty portraits in myriad styles and sizes, the works will be accompanied by essays by fictional writers such as Will Self and Hayward Gallery Director Ralph Rugoff. Creating the method of “artificial realism” in the 1980′s, Condo has influenced a new generation of artists. The exhibition opens January 26th, running through May 15th, 2011 at New York’s New Museum, with planned stops next year in London, Frankfurt and Rotterdam.
